Notes
|
This is assumed to be Sarah's baptism and parents. There
are a number of family trees on
Ancestry.co.uk that state that she was baptised
on the 30th of October 1733 in St Philips, Birmingham,
(there is an IGI for this), and her father is Robert
Groves (no mother given). But why would the Sarah Groves
who married Richard be the one who was baptised in Birmingham,
when Barton-on-the-Heath is so close to Whichford, Stourton
and Tidmington? Have a look at the
Cotswolds
Area Map to see how close they all are.

Richard's Parentage
|
|
It's possible that Richard is the son of Robert Sturch and Elizabeth
Stockford rather than Richard Sturch and Elizabeth ?.
Robert
and Elizabeth's daughter Elizabeth lists a Richard Sturch as
a witness on her marriage to Thomas Eden in 1756. This Richard
would then have been her brother.
It could be that the surviving
Richard has been confused with the Richard, son of Richard and
Elizabeth ? who died in 1729, as I have not seen this Richard
listed in anyone else's trees.
Richard (1763)'s baptism
record lists his parents as Richard (Jr) and Sarah Sturch of
Stourton, which suggests that he's the third Richard in the line,
although it is important to note that the 'Jr' at that time
purely signified that there was at least two Richard
Sturch in Stourton - an elder and a younger one. Although
it could be, it does not necessarily mean father & son
combinations.
Standard naming convention would also support the theory
that Richard's parents are actually Robert and Elizabeth; Richard
named his first son Robert after his father, his second son
William after his wifes father and the third son Richard as his
namesake.
Richard's exact parentage is not vitally important, as both
Robert and Richard are the sons of
Nicholas Sturch
(c.1660 - 1728), so until this confusion is resolved I've included both sets of
parents.
