Notes
|
Coomb or Coombe is about 10 miles southwest of Newbury.
It used to be in Hampshire but in 1895 it became part
of Berkshire.
Jane was possibly previously married to an Edward Pratt,
as Walter Edward was registered at birth as a Pratt,
with his father listed as Edward Pratt, Plasterer. Although
this could easily be a confusion of Batt with Pratt,
and Edward Pratt, Plasterer with Edward Sturch, Plasterer.
William Sturch was registered as William Batt. He was
born at the Marylebone workhouse and no father was named.
Jane appeared in court in 1889 charged under the new
Child Protection act. Click here to read the

Annie's mother Jane appeared in court in 1889
charged under the new Child Protection act, and
Annie was one of the children she was charged with
treating cruelly. Click here to read the
newspaper
cutting.
Annie had an illegitimate daughter, Nellie Harris
Sturch, who was born in St Pancras, Mar 1906.
Annie appears to have never married as the
registration of her death records her as a Sturch.
